For the project Destination Drachten, initiated by the municipality of Smallingerland in collaboration with TAAK, I was invited to design a sculpture addressing the theme of Future, Dreams & Connection as one of four new artworks marking the gateways to Drachten.

I conceived a rocket as a symbol of progress and linked it to a lottery system. Since November 2012, a monthly draw has taken place, with the winning apartment number displayed in LED digits at the tip of the rocket. The corresponding resident receives a prize by mail.

Over the 10-year duration of the project, 120 winners are celebrated. Each year, the entire neighborhood is invited to a small festive event—the Vertjaardag—to mark the rocket’s birthday.
